[ltp] ThinkPad A20P Modem = ?

I find this all rather strange...

On MDK 9.0 I just did the install from command line of the RPM. It didn't seem
to have any dependencies that I ran into, and I don't have wvdial or anything
like that installed AFAIK. In fact what I did to test the thing was once I
installed the RPM I just ran 'kppp' (don't run Mandrake's 'wizard' because
that will mess up your existing network configuration, though it is possible
to have different profiles). Just running kppp lets you configure things in
a fairly sane manner that doesn't bend your LAN connection too much
(naturally of course when you dial in your routing table and whatnot gets
updated, but you can opt not to have that happen).

I think you will find though that MDK 9.0 is an advance over 8.2. To be honest
I wasn't that fond of 8.2, it seemed like it was hastily put together and it
never really got much attention from Mandrake (I mean it was the current
distro for what, 4 months maybe?). 9's configuration management seems a lot
smoother, plus you get KDE 3, a newer X, and a lot better support for things
like USB (and SUPERMOUNT WORKS RIGHT FINALLY!!!!!!!).

I mean 9.0 is the first Linux I can really honestly just plug any old USB
storage device in and it mounts 100% of the time reliably, I can actually
manage NFS, Samba, etc from a GUI that works properly, etc. 8.2 was close,
but just far too rough. I think it never should have been released.
