I used 

./configure --enable-mwavedd --with-linuxsrcdir=/usr/src/linux-2.4

And what do you know ... it works.  In fact, that's how I'm sending this
message, :)

This is on a 600 running RH 7.3, but the kernel sources RPM in 7.2 puts
the sources in the same place.
