Although I don't have any experience with this particular model, I
imagine the configuration software (to set the IP address, SSID, etc) is
windows based, thus the windows requirement.  This was the case with my
netgear one, anyway.  However, once it is configured, you shouldn't need
to play with the software again.  An access point will indeed be OS
independant, so as long as you have a windows machine around to set it
up, you'll be fine.

Also with such things, it's worth seeing if you can configure them by
telnet, to avoid installing any software.  Many such appliances will.
