I've bought a second 600E/CD-RW/DVD/196Mb/60Gb $700 from Ebay
You can buy a lot of individual parts also. I've bought a
non-working 600E for parts $150.

As for batteries I bought 2 new from:

They were both in original IBM boxes and sealed plastic from the
factory. No problems with them. He seemed to have a large quantity
of them. Easiest solution was to look for auctions he'd placed and
and buy them using "Buy It Now".

Total cost for two: $195, arrived second day day.
