You can download the iso images here:

or you can buy actual cd's here:
http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/

The Debian installer is not the greatest but the Debian folks are 
working on a new installer.  The current installer does not 
have hardware detection and some say it is difficult to use.
But I think it is not too hard.

I am using kernel 2.4.22 which has everything I need.
