If the 600e is like the 600, you don't need to take out the floppy/CD
drive at all.  The battery can be removed by opening the RAM door on the
bottom of the machine and sliding out the battery.  It's in a small caddy
that can be slid into the area where the DIMMs are.

Praise be to IBM for putting that stuff on the web where us Linux/Thinkpad
junkies can get to it. :)
