I am trying to backup my Laptop (760XL)

I have a PCMCIA NIC and in Linux it works awesome!

I wish to back it up entirely - All Partitions, tables and everything... I
have 1 big delmina that should explain what I type next... I have a 1.2Gb HD
that is full and the only other access to a place to put this 'image' is on
my network - a Windows Network...

My first idea is to use Norton Ghost with DOS networking (Multicast is cool)
but I cannot get my NIC to work in DOS (or Windows even)

How can I use Linux to Backup and Restore my entire HD? What is the best
way? What software will be needed (Ex. Samba)? What commands do I need to
learn and the most important question... How do I put it back on after I
back it up? (LOL I don't even

I am by no means a Linux Guru... I'd like to be, but I am not there yet. If
I can accomplish this then I can continue learning Linux at an advanced
pase... (Not that I can spell =) hehe

If someone can at least point me in the right direction that is all I need!
Note: I will probably have other questions like - once my machine is 'empty'
and I go to restore my backup, will I be able to do it via boot disks? Or
will I have to install a small linux version to get my NIC and possibly any
other apps loaded? - I'd like to be able to use a boot disk to do both
backup and restore... (That is the ideal situation in an ideal world... to
bad this world isn't ideal =(
