[ltp] up2date (RH) and updating the kernel

Hello,

This is somewhat of a up2date question, but it is for a T40, and
for those who use up2date tool from RedHat.

Is it safe to update the vanilla RedHat 9.0 (kernel 2.4.18-20)
to the kernel version offered by up2date tool?  Has anyone else
done this on a T40 using up2date?
I've built my own kernels before, but it was always manual work,
and I am wondering if people have used up2date instead, and have
been successful doing this on T40s.
