Could be, I was using the EXTRAVERSION variable in the kernel Makefile, 
I'll try it with the make-kpackage flag

bummer. Can I just apply that patch? I'm under the assumption I need 
these modules for stuff like cpu/fan/disk throttling for power/heat 
regulation, and hibernate.
