Just a note to any of you who may have a digital camera (or who use
compact flash cards for other stuff), especially if you have a TP with
an "UltraPort" (it's under that little rubber cover at the top of the
screen if you have one).

I was looking for a PCMCIA compact flash reader to replace the Smart
Media one I had been using as I have upgraded my digital camera to one
thet uses CF when I came across this little number
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=778454&sku=I74-1834.

It shows it in their pictures being used with a USB cable (and it comes
with an adapter, USB cable and a little tripod thingy so it can be used
with a desktop PC), but the real joy is using it with the UltraPort! It
comes with a little piece that screws on & has a hinged lid in place of
the rubber cover for the UltraPort, and you just clip it in & it fits
really neatly at the top of your screen bezel ready to accept a CF card
(there's pics here-
http://www-6.ibm.com/jp/pc/option/obi/nob11/19k4510/19k4510a.html on the
IBM Japanese website of it both in desktop mode & installed on the
UtraPort).

AND it works beautifully with linux (at least with Libranet, the
Debian-based distro I use, YMMV but I see no reason it shouldn't with
others). Mine came today & I love it already! It just shows up like a
USB drive (these instructions-
http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~ggbaker/personal/cf-linux are what I used- works
like a charm!). Now I don't have to worry about the way gPhoto sometimes
balks at the .avi movies I shoot with my Canon A75 (and I can leave my
USB cables at home).

And at this price ($6.97!!!, PC Mall & eCOST have it for $149.99 &
$98.26 respectively) you can't go wrong!
