More info on sound, but i think could also solve the thinkpad module
problem.

I've installed the alsa package, configured it, and now have:

 gaio@sara:~$ cat /etc/modutils/alsa
 ### DEBCONF MAGIC
 # This file was automatically generated by alsa-base's debconf stuff

 alias char-major-116 snd
 alias char-major-14 soundcore

 options snd major=116 cards_limit=4

 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
 alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
 alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
 alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
 alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
 alias /dev/dsp* snd-pcm-oss

 alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236

 alias snd-slot-0 snd-card-0
 alias sound-slot-0 snd-slot-0

and in /etc/modutils/sound the row:

 options snd-cs4236 enable=1 port=0x530 cport=0x538 irq=5 dma1=1 dma2=0

if i do /etc/init.d/alsa start, complain about module not loading
(device not found or something similar).

If i do:

 modprobe snd-cs4236 enable=1 port=0x530 cport=0x538 irq=5 dma1=1 dma2=0

the module load perfectly and all work well.

Seems like that the /etc/modules.conf generated by update-modules
script are not considered at all... wait a moment...

	AARRGGHH!!! modprobe.conf!!!

 cp /etc/modutils/thinkpad /etc/modprobe.d/
 update-modules

Ok, now all work well. Sorry. ;)))

PS: but this is a debian package bug, in any case,
/etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad have not to be missed... ;(((
