Yes.

The limitation of 1280x1024 is purely a IBM ATI Windows driver problem.
The "IBM" ATI windows driver is multiple revisions out of date from the
latest official ATI driver.

IBM can fix it by resyncing up with ATI, but sadly they haven't done
this to date (it should be noted that both HP and Dell laptops will
officially do 1600x1200).

If you are stuck with Windows, the solution is to download the latest
ATI Catalyst drivers, and then use this tool:

http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

(it modified/creates an INF file to enable installation of the latest
ATI Catalyst drivers on laptops).
