i'm often aware of the fan turning on and off on my T41; unless it's 
merely going faster/slower, but it doesn't seem to be.

good news on the active protection specs, although not sure how much i'd 
have it turned on anyway as i often use my machine on unstable surfaces 
(bed, lap etc) and under windows the AP system is more trouble than it's 
worth unless the computer is perfectly still
