Of course it *should* work. I'm just not convinced that it is an
absolutely "must have" feature. If it were this crucial, every vendor
would have included a motion sensor since forever.

Would the hdd have died without the APS system? And did the hdd park in
time or was WinXP too busy swapping / pondering its navel? We'll never

There is no official information, but from what I heard there certainly
was a reliability problem with APS:

IBM came out with a nebulous "important upgrade" for the hdd firmware. No
information in the changelog.
