[ltp] Debian + xorg, r300

I have a T42p with a FireGL T2 and use Ubuntu.  Ubuntu uses xfree86,
just like straight Debian.  But if you get the
"linux-restricted-modules" and "fglrx-4.3.0-*" packages, the ATI driver
is installed within and works fine (both with 2D and 3D acceleration). 
These are available in Ubuntu "universe" repository and probably
elsewhere.

I also had luck installing via instructions and scripts provided at
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.stanchina/debian/fglrx-installer.html
on Ubuntu.

Suspend/resume works fine for me as long as I don't enable glx (3d
accel) in my XF86Config.

If you just want ATI support, you probably don't need Xorg.
