[ltp] Why use acpi for suspend?

Hi. I recently installed Mandrake 10 on a new Thinkpad T42. It worked
out of the box, including suspend, except for the known hang when the
screen is blanked in terminal or X (is there a known fix other than
disabling in bios?).

I've been reading people using acpi to suspend - why would I want to use
this if suspend is working when I set the kernel boot parameter acpi=off
and the battery monitor is working etc? Obviously there is something
I'm missing.

Thanks, Nick
