[ltp] T40p and internal Agere System AC'97 modem

Guess what, got stuck on a place where no WLAN nor RJ45 connection to
the net is available....and I have only the internal modem available:
Agere System AC'97 modem

So, how do I get this running? using DEBIAN SARGE on a T40p. And while
browsing the net and the newsgroups most of the people did not get it
work.... Did anyone of you folks? I also did run the scanmodem script
(/http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/#scanmodem/)
the output is: " The Subsystem has an Agere Systems codec SIL27  A
PCMCIA modem is detected."

Now should I install the SmartLink driver? (slmodem)  I read some people
had "lost" their sound card after installation......
