I suspect that drm is broken as the screen is definitely 'messed up' 
until you get to a certain point in the boot process.  This is also the 
point where the screen goes blank if drm is enabled.  The point is that 
I did not even build ATI's DRM support and the screen went blank.  The 
strange point is if I built Radeon DRM support, the blank screen problem 
did not happen.
