Mike,

Just about all the new drives are 9.5 thick and will work in the T30. Your
only choice is a question as to how much you want to spend for performance.
There are 7200rpm drives now availible in 2.5 form factor. If I were
purchasing a drive now this is what I would shoot for.

You mentioned earlier that you were worried about the IBM restore stuff on
your existing hard drive.

I have a T30 as well. I used a third party partition tool (Partition Magic)
when I installed RH 7.3 Linux. I made it so I could dual boot XP or Linux
by shrinking the original XP partition to make room for linux. I left the
original IBM restore partition as is. I also made a second logical drive
with FAT32 so I could mount it under Linux to exchange files between the two
OS's. FWIW I have a 60 gig drive original from IBM.

I am not certain what you did when you install your RH Linux. Did you
overwrite everything?

In any case, when/if you upgrade you might want to get a hold of two 3.5" to
2.5" ide cable adapters. You can then clone your existing drive onto the
new drive by plugging them in an a desktop computer (using Partition Magic
or some other tool). After you clone it you can then resize the partition
(to the size of the larger drive) using the same tool.
