Let me answer with a question:
Does anyone know what exactly this SATA->PATA bridge is?

I could imagine that it is a compatibility function of the SATA 
controller, but that this SATA controller is as well capable of driving 
a native SATA drive. If so...there's your advantage...big one actually, 
since it shall be way more future proof.
