[ltp] lost cursor when switching monitors on X41

hi --

i recently picked up an X41 (non-tablet) which i really like, and
am running ubuntu (6.10 -- edgy eft), which i'd love to really
like.  i'm having a few little issues, though.

using the function key to switch from internal to external
display works, mostly, except that:

	a) if i switch back and forth several times, sometimes i
	    lose the mouse cursor completely.  i haven't quite
	    figured out a reproducible set of conditions, but when
	    it disappears, it requires me to restart the X server
	    (alt-ctrl-backspace) to get it back.  (the mouse is
	    still active -- links get highlighted, etc -- but
	    it's invisible.) any ideas?

	b) if i close the lid, the external monitor blanks.  not
	    a huge deal, but sort of annoying.
	   
any tips appreciated...
