... hmm. Ubuntu Dapper is not due to ship for another 2 months - when it 
does it will be as version 6.04... The current stable version of Ubuntu 
is Badger (version 5.10). What you did is download an (as of yet) 
unsupported version of Ubuntu which may still be quite buggy. Instead of 
downloading and installing this Ubuntu version of the kernel, you'd be 
better off by installing and compiling the kernel from the source 
(kernel.org) instead.
