You might try cleaning the memory module. I would be *very* wary of 
cleaning the motherboard or the case (NB some cleaners attack plastics), 
but depending on where the gunk has got, you could try cleaning the 
memory module itself. Either acetone, or specialist PCB degreaser (try 
RS or Farnell).

Obviously, this is at your risk. It depends on exactly what has been 
damaged. And observe anti-static precautions!
