Thanks, everyone.
I followed the advice someone gave,
and it worked perfectly.

The secret is to have the USB stick in when booting.
Then it appears in the BIOS as a hard drive,
and one can move it to the top of the options.

[This is after entering the BIOS with F1;
F12 did not seem to work, though I only tried it once,
and may have made a mistake.]

I actually have Fedora-8 Live KDE (CD) on the USB stick.
I tried DSL (Damn Small Linux) but that did not work,
again probably because I did something wrong.
