2.6.23 and 2.6.23.1 are a lost cause...  You are better off with 2.6.22.y
right now (but please add thinkpad-acpi 0.18 patches :-) ).

Maybe 2.6.23.2 will fix the current issues, but I usually don't bother
switching anything in production to an stable kernel until y=5 or
thereabouts.
