[ltp] Gpsd & friends

I seem to have lost Gpd, Xgps, and even cat /dev/ttyUSB0 on
all of my Fedora after FC5 and Ubuntu after about Daffy installations.
I use the Earthmate LT-20 and it is part of my boats
navigation system so this is a big item for me.
None of these give anything like error messages, they
just don't do anything.
There doesn't seem to be anything about this on the net.
Any ideas?
