Oh yes. I can read/write CDs/DVDs well enough.

I see. I'll pull the gutsy kernel source and give it another go.

I forgot to mention that there is a nasty (and well reported) kernel
message that pops up after about 15 minutes of use and is along the

This has been plaguing me ever since I first installed Linux on my
laptop. A couple of months ago, this message was accompanied with a
hang. Of late, things seem to move on irrespective.
