I've just checked: BIOS Version is 1.11. Current Version by Lenovo is
2.07, but I didn't find any fan related changes in the "summary of
changes" by Lenovo.

I am not able to check the behaviour under Windows as I bought one of
the Windows-less FreeDOS machines from Lenovo. But I assume that there
shouldn't be any major differences, especially as this low, stable ~3300
rpm mode starts before the OS is loaded.

I would be perfectly happy if my machine booted into this low fan speed
mode each time I use it.

However, e.g. currently the fan is running steadily at loud 4300 rpm,
although each single thermal value is lower than in the case with 3220
rpm. The CPU is currently at 40 degrees and this is higher than the
other values (GPU, etc.). If I do the "2 cores at 100%" test while it
runs at 4300 rpm it gets even faster.

Ok. I'll create a log of the different values with a current BIOS/EC
version.

On my old X41 the fan was running virtually all the time. However, I
preferred the X41 behaviour when compared to the X61s as it didn't enter
high rpm modes when there was no load on the system.
