I doubt the problem of your thinkpad lies that way...

I strongly recommend that one should get rid of any thinkpad (in fact, of
any computer device) that has had its planar card/mainboard replaced more
than once for an unknown reason. I do mean get rid of it, don't reuse the
HD. Transfer the data to another box over the network, and dispose of the
data in the HD securely.

While it *is* possible that one could, maybe, program the GPU in a way to
cause trouble, if that was something easy to happen, we'd have seen more
reports as I understand you didn't do anything too strange to it.

Since it is just you, and others with 1st gen CoreDuo T60 have reported they
work just fine, it makes a lot more sense to suspect you have got a thinkpad
with multiple hidden problems that damage other hardware slowly (aka a
"lemon"). Such class of problems are a PEST to fix, so you either get the
entire box replaced by Lenovo, or you sell the problem to someone and get
yourself another thinkpad.

No, I am not :-) But I *am* an EE, so I have a reasonable idea of how these
things work, and why they won't find what is wrong in your thinkpad easily.

You will find real thinkpad hardware hackers and repair technicians in the
thinkpads.com forums, btw. It may be a good idea to open a thread about
this issue there... if someone has seen something like that in the past and
did the detective work, you will have a chance of fixing it. Otherwise, no
deal.
