brightness_switch_enable only concerns the transmission to userspace. if
Y, then acpi takes care of brighness in kernel, if N it's *passed* to
userspace. So if there's a listening daemon, like gnome-power-manager,
it'll do the job, but may do it wrong if the interface isn't standard.

So yes, removing video may be a better idea. But in the long term I
guess fixing the EC should be a better one, if possible :)
