Its a really huge difference.

With the nine cell battery I got today with one, part time two KDE 4.6 
sessions:

Seems that the battery could easily last a day. And seems that with the 
additional batteries that are available it might really be possible to use 
a T520 for 24 hours on batteries as Lenovo claims ;).
