[ltp] R40 date loss

Probably not a Linux issue, but certainly Thinkpad - I've got an old R40 dual-
boot (XP and Debian) and recently it's been losing its date - that is, 
reverting to 1-1-80 and wanting the date set in the BIOS before it will boot.

I've installed a new CMOS battery (which I assume should be okay) but it's 
still doing it.   Can anyone offer any suggestions for what to do / try 
replacing next?

(I have a spare R40 - which periodically siezes - which I can cannibalise for 
parts if need be).
