The BIOS is never updated from a running OS, really, so yes, you can
update the BIOS from a machine that usually boots GNU/Linux.

There are several ways to do that, many of which work only on
some models.  The most "reliable" way is often to use an ISO that you
burn onto a CD, but if you hate using CDs or don't have a optical drive,
you can try some of the others.
