Sooner or later, you'll no longer be able to get a distro that runs, so
perhaps you should be looking for a new computer.  Other than an ancient
IBM Netfinity server, all my systems have been 64 bit for years.  My
current notebook computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad E520, which I bought
about 4.5 years ago.  It's 64 bit and continues to run well.  I
currently have openSUSE 13.1 on it.
