Tim,
Thanks for responding.
I must say that I am disappointed in IBM's response towards the resolution of
these bugs. It has been a month since we were told that LinuxCare was going to
look at a 1400x1050 ThinkPad. We havent heard from IBM since. There are at least
two graphics problems that I think are unique to our brand of T21s
1) Simultaneous CRT + LCD display.
2) xvideo related problems that doesnt allow us to play MPEGs or DVDs. (This
wasnt broken before xvideo support in the savage driver).
(There is also a third less serious issue where thin lines (1 pixel wide or
so?) are rendered as much thicker lines. This makes for weird looking plots in
applications such as gnuplot, matlab, maple......tools that I use all the time).
If IBM isnt willing to resolve Linux problems on their older models, the least
they could do is divulge information so others can resolve things. I say "older"
models, when it has only been 5 months since IBM started selling T21s. Yet, they
seem to be concentrating their efforts on newer models. These are expensive
machines and if this kind of lacklusture support continues I am going to
seriously consider changing brands when it comes to upgrading my machine in a
couple of years time. Lack of modem support is one thing (we could always use an
external modem), but graphics chip support is an entirely different ball game.
