I eventually gave up and used the Alsa drivers.  They work flawlessly.
With 7.1, however, I had to install a new kernel from source, and I also
build a new gcc from source and stuck it in /usr/local.  RedHat's put out
*another* broken compiler, and some wonky kernel mods that wouldn't let me
build the alsa stuff.
