Once I looked into the source of the Trident driver I found out that it uses
fixed timings (60 Hz) for the LCD wich confused my monitor. It completly
ignores the timings in the supplied modeline. However, the fixed timings are
only used if an active LCD is detected. Unfortunaly, it was detected as
active even if it wasn't. I disabled this probe and hardcoded the LCD as
always being not active. This way the X server didn't ignore the timing of
the modelines anymore. Maybe you ran into a similar problem.
