Have been running Xfree 4.2.99 and 4.3 on my T30 (ATI Radeon Mobility 
7500) without any issues at all other than occasional text garbage in 
terminal windows. However, this was under RHL 8.0 and 9.0, not Suse. Since 
the Radeon driver is maintained by RedHat's Mike Harris, there might be 
some extra flavouring tehre we don't know about. ;-)
