[ltp] A30 Hibernation summary

Hi all,

I'd like to sum up the facts here on the A30(p) hibernation which can be
used as a reference for other ThinkPads too.

First, you need to get a file called stndalhd.exe from IBM's web site. It's
called Hibernation Diskette II.

If you don't have a FAT32-Partition on your hard disk (if you have, skip
this part, but watch out! You need to have free space on C: which is your
first FAT32 partition), you need to create one which is bigger than the
size of your RAM + Video memory (e.g. 512 MB + 32 MB). Format this
partition with a program which can create a FAT32 file system, most
probably FreeDOS's format will do fine.

You need then to run this exe from DOS or Windows, FreeDOS will be fine
when booted with Fat32-Kernel.

This file creates a diskette with three relevant files called phdisk.exe,
phdos.sys and save2dsk.xga. If you don't have a diskette drive, you need
to do the procedure on a different PC which has one (doesn't need to be a
ThinkPad). Copy the three files to your ThinkPad's new FAT32 partition.

Boot into FreeDOS and cd to the directory where you stored the phdisk.exe
files. Run phdisk.exe. It will create a Hibernation File on C: (!), that
means you have to assure you have enough room on C: for a file the size
you calculated.

Then reboot, start Linux, and try Fn-F12. Your TP hibernates. If you later
power on your TP, your Linux session will be happily restored from the
Hibernation file.

If you have DRI enabled, it seems that there are some problems without a
Radeon Patch mentioned.

Ciao, Matthias

P.S. A FreeDOS ISO image can be downloaded from the web.
