A related question: I have 64MB installed presently, but want to buy
more RAM. There is room on the partition, but I'm wondering whether
or not it's smart enough to expand the file the first time it wants
to write more there.

I do presume that a hard-reboot across the installation is wise; I want
Linux to see the new RAM and not come back from a 64MB hibernation.

A concern is it taking longer to hibernate the extra RAM. There are
things Linux could do (throw out buffer cache and paged executables)
to cut back its memory footprint to just the essentials, but I'm not
sure any such thing actually happens.
