Don't know exactly about that combo of code, but on my a22p I couldn't
get direct rendering until I backed off from the 1600x1200 display size
or from 24 bits/pixel, or both.  This was true for RH 7.2 and RH 9.0 and 
XFree86 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3.

Using 1600x1200 and 24 bpp apparently requires more then 16 MB of video
memory for direct rendering.
