[ltp] TP 770Z, sound and network

I'm having some problems getting my 770Z up to speed.
Using Debian's default 2.2.20 kernel from woody, I can get the network
card working (a Xircom card, using the xirc2ps_cs), but am having no luck
with the sound (since Debian doesn't appear to ship the cs4232 module with
that kernel, and my attempt to compile new modules was confounded by not
having the same version of the compiler used for the default kernel.)

I then tried a succession of kernels, and so far have managed to get
2.6.0-test8 (!) working with the sound card but not with the network card:
when I boot up, I get this message:

Oct 24 02:13:31 cugel kernel: Linux Kernel Card Services
Oct 24 02:13:31 cugel kernel: options: [pci] [cardbus] [pm]
Oct 24 02:13:31 cugel cardmgr[291]: starting, version is 3.1.33
Oct 24 02:13:32 cugel cardmgr[291]: no sockets found!
Oct 24 02:13:32 cugel cardmgr[291]: exiting

where with 2.2.20 I get:

Oct 24 02:23:56 cugel kernel: Linux PCMCIA Card Services 3.1.33

Oct 24 02:23:56 cugel cardmgr[254]: watching 2 sockets

I did notice that 2.2.20 appears to be running Linux PCMCIA Card Services,
where 2.6.0 is running Linux Kernel Card Services: would rebuilding a
2.6.0 kernel without pcmcia support and just using the pcmcia-cs modules
be likely to help?

Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated, either on fixing the sound
in 2.2.20 or fixing the network in 2.6.0. (If there's an apt command to do
this all automagically, I'd also love to hear it.)
