As a newbie who likes to use more than one mouse, try using a more recent
distro that has a 2.6 kernel. Or, download Knoppix and see if it runs fine on
your machine. You can also install it onto your hd if you find it suits you.
There's no sense in trying to figure out hardware errors if you're a noob,
just find a distro that works for you. You might also try SuSE which has just
released a free version. Its hardware detection has always been quite good in
my exprience.
