Nail polish (aka. nail varnish) remover is the best solvent for sticky
stuff.  Very cheap, and no trip to the hospital required.  The active
ingredient is either Ethyl-Acetate or Acetone which are both wonderful
sovents.  They work well on pen ink too, and are mostly safe on fabrics
and plastics.
