[ltp] Q: safe partition resize tool?

I am new to this group, hello everyone!

I just bought an R51. It has a hidden partition with restore tools and a 
main partition with Windows installed. Before first Windows start, the 
main partition has type FAT32.

I want to reduce the size of the main partition to create space for 
extended partition to install Linux.

Is it safe to remove the main partition, and create a new partition?

The question is, what tool can you recommend that will make no harm to 
hidden partition? Any hints to use Linux utilities? Is 'parted' safe to 
use?
