If the file is transferred in ASCII-mode and a Windows box is involved,
such things can happen.
I was once doing a support job at a company who had a SuSE based server
and the installation script for one software they wanted to install on
it was transferred to it from a Windows box. It took me some hours to
figure that the malformed line breaks were causing the bad interpreter
error.
