Forgive my ignorance, but how does this work (or better: how do I set it 
up)?  I find the power management functions on Linux to be rather 
intransparent.  An URL or RTFM is fine.

I was not talking about an off-the shelf IBM x20 battery but some other 
kind of battery pack to be assembled that fits.  But I think the 
hibernate-and-swap option might prove to be much more attractive and a 
*LOT* easier to set up.

Alex Deucher is willing to work on it.  We just need to get him in touch 
with a machine with a rage mobility graphics chip.  If only he lived in 
Europe.  I'll have a spare x20 at least for a couple of weeks if not 
months.  Anyone in the Washington DC area with a machine to spare for an 
indefinite amount of time? ;-)
