You may have picked it up from other postings, but just to be clear, 600 
  mhz is the low speed used for power saving.  You can either set that 
low all the time, or have it vary automatically depending on cpu load.. 
then it will vary between 600 mhz and your maximum.  I generally leave 
it on auto all the time as the CPU also runs cooler so the fan stays off 
most of the time.
