[ltp] speckles on t40 screen. dead pixels or drivers?

Hi,

I just got a thinkpad t40 that I bought off eBay and when I booted up
the gnome livecd I could see a bunch of speckles on the screen. They
looked like light white dots, but now that I'm in Windows they look
like red dots. They're in verticle lines, spaced out a bit but random
it seems. Sometimes if I move a window a bit they go away. I thought
it was just the driver in linux but now that I see it doing this in
windows I'm a bit worried. Are these what people call dead pixels? If
so there are tons of them.

Also, I notice that when I reboot the system and the screen goes blank
it looks almost like it has vapor inside in the way it fades out and
what looks like moisture goes away gradually. I'm sure there's nothing
damp inside, but it's a bit odd.

Anyway, I'm a bit worried by this. Has anyone seen this before?
