I suspect it's Ubuntu, rather than hardware. Look at the log files
(particularly /var/log/acpid.)

Also, a good test is to boot it with Knoppix. Knx doesn't do any power 
management at all by default (as far as I know), so you can eliminate 
hardware as an issue.
